There are three lines of text in this short tape, taken from T.S. Eliot’s Four Quartets, “I do not know much about gods, but I think that the river is a strong brown god” “many gods and many voices”, and “the river is within us, the sea is all about us”. The bass clarinet samples and voice on the tape are by Laura Carmichael, and were recorded at the Center for New Music and Audio Technologies at the University of California, Berkeley.
